An Anne Arundel Community College student and chef won gold medals in the October Chesapeake Chefs Challenge held during the Restaurant Association of Maryland’s Mid-Atlantic Expo at the Baltimore Convention Center.
Fifteen chefs competed in the competition including Jerald Gaddi of Baltimore City, who is enrolled in an AACC Hospitality, Culinary Arts and Tourism Institute (HCAT) program, and HCAT instructional specialist and professional chef John V. Johnson, CEC, CCE, AAC, of Baltimore County. The challenge is an American Culinary Federation (ACF) accredited culinary competition in which participants must incorporate fish and include Maryland crabmeat into their plate presentation.
Gaddi won a gold medal and placed 4th overall and Johnson won a gold medal and placed 3rd overall. This is the second gold medal Gaddi has won in the past year competing against professional chefs. Members of the HCAT Team Anne Arundel will next participate in a Nov. 8 ACF competition hosted by the Nation’s Capital Chef’s Association at Stratford University in Virginia.
