The Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts is pleased to announce applications are now available online for Artscape, America’s largest free festival of the arts.
Once again, local visual and performing artists, craftspeople and fashion designers are called on to make this event a success. The 29th annual summer arts festival is seeking artists, cultural, fashion and children’s exhibitors, dance and theater companies and more. Submission deadlines vary depending on discipline. Applications are online only. Artscape takes place July 16 and July 17 from 12-10 p.m. and July 18 from 12-8 p.m. on Mount Royal Avenue and North Charles Street. The festival is presented by Mayor Sheila Dixon and produced by the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts.
Artscape 2010 Applications
Artscape offers 120-plus juried booths, featuring America’s finest crafts and fine arts, both to admire and purchase including ceramics, drawing, mixed media, jewelry, photography, sculpture and computer art. Application deadline is March 31.
Chick Webb Jazz Combo Competition, presented by MECU
The third annual competition honors Webb’s jazz legacy by providing jazz trios, quartets and quintets an opportunity to compete for top awards. The competition is open to jazz combos with three, four or five musicians from Maryland, Delaware, Washington, D.C., Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William counties in Northern Virginia or Adams, Chester, Franklin and Lancaster counties in Southern Pennsylvania. Application deadline is May 15.
DIY at Artscape
DIY at Artscape supports emerging crafters. Back for its second year, Artscape seeks talented artists with original and quality work. Participating artists must have handmade pieces with at least 80 percent of the items priced at $100 or less. Application deadline is March 31.
Food vendors offer a delicious menu of food and beverages to sell at the festival. The five returning food courts, including the Green Food Court have traditional festival and multicultural fare. Application deadline is May 1.
Interested musicians and bands can submit work through Sonicbids for general performance consideration or the second annual Sound-Off! Artscape’s Local/Unsigned Band Contest. Sonicbids helps artists and music promoters connect online. Musicians are able to create a Sonicbids account with a username and password, create an electronic press kit (EPK) and then submit the EPK to the shows they are interested in i.e. Artscape. Application deadline is April 15.
Visual Arts Organization Exhibition
Museums, advocacy groups, educational institutions, nonprofit arts organizations and other institutions contributing a cultural resource to the citizens of Maryland are encouraged to be a part of Artscape for promotional or outreach purposes. Application deadline is March 31.
Target Family Art Park (Children’s Park)
Artscape is seeking children’s exhibitors and organizations to offer children’s level educational resources and projects for the Target Family Art Park. Application deadline is March 31.
Visual Arts Exhibits
Artscape is seeking exhibitors/artists for Midway III and Midway III Identity Design Competition. The applications for the Baltimore Sculpture Project and art cars will be posted at a later date. Application deadlines vary.
Volunteers are needed at various times during the festival and for a variety of activities including the children’s crafts projects area, artist and exhibitor booth relief, information stations, exhibitor hospitality, Fashion at Artscape and more.
