Ballard Spahr’s Robert Scott elected president of The Loading Dock

Robert A. Scott, a litigation partner in Ballard Spahr’s Baltimore office, has been elected president of the Board of Directors of The Loading Dock, Inc. (TLD), a nonprofit agency dedicated to the reuse and redistribution of salvaged and surplus building materials.

Established in 1984, TLD is the first nonprofit of its kind in the nation, focusing on addressing both housing and environmental issues in Maryland. Its warehouse in southeast Baltimore accepts donations of building materials that would otherwise end up in landfills and redistributes the materials for use in affordable housing and community improvement projects. Since its inception, TLD has saved clients $31 million and diverted 12,000 truckloads of materials from landfills.

Scott, who regularly performs pro bono work for institutions serving low-income residents, was elected to TLD’s Board in 2005. He was most recently vice president of the board.

“TLD’s twofold mission of upgrading substandard housing for low-income families and reducing the amount of waste that accumulates in local landfills makes it a true pioneer in community service,” Scott said. “Many communities, both nationally and internationally, are looking to emulate TLD’s success. I’m honored to have this new leadership role and look forward to helping the organization further its goals.”

At Ballard Spahr, Scott practices general commercial litigation, with an emphasis on real estate, title insurance and consumer finance litigation. He regularly defends banks, consumer lenders and mortgage servicers against claims brought under various state and federal consumer statutes.
