Baltimore Blast host Game 1 of MISL championship

The Baltimore Blast, Baltimore’s indoor soccer team, hosts Game 1 of the Major Indoor Soccer League championship March 16 and GBC members are being offered discounted tickets to the event.

The Blast clinched the Eastern Division title relatively early on in the season and swept the Rochester Lancers in a two-game series last weekend to win the Eastern Division championship. Even with three of their most influential players on the bench with injuries, the Blast were still able to take away a 8-2 win at 1st Mariner Arena and then grab a 14-8 win in Rochester.

Now the Blast (20-6) face their biggest rival for the MISL championship title. The Milwaukee Wave took down the Blast in the 2010-11 championship game at 1st Mariner Arena, securing their first MISL title since 2005 with a 16-7 victory. The Wave accounted for only one of the six losses the Blast suffered this season, but it was a moster loss: a 22-8 drubbing in Milwaukee where the Blast displayed poor offensive exectution and even worse defense. The Blast won in the two other meetings against their rivals with results of 9-4 and 17-13.

The Blast are up to this challenge and plan to take back the title that has graced 1st Mariner Arena five times already and safely secure their position as the winningest team in professional indoor soccer. The format for this year’s championship is a little different in that the teams will play a two-game series for the championship crown.

Game 1 at 1st Mariner will be March 16 at 7:30 p.m. Last year’s championship game crowd exceeded 10,000 and the Blast hope to have all the support they can in the arena this year.

Tickets are being offered to GBC members at a discounted price. See the Baltimore Blast flyer for more details.
