BGE celebrates Black History Month by supporting its employees, local nonprofit organizations and members of the community that contribute to the rich heritage of African Americans in central Maryland.

BGE will join with the Baltimore-based members of the employee resource group Exelon African American Resource Alliance (EAARA) to host a variety of innovative programs that focus on supporting local organizations and programs that enrich the community.

Events include:

  • February 3: Black History Month Kick-Off Event – The Baltimore chapter of EAARA will host a networking event at the renowned museum of African-American culture. Attendees are invited to enjoy the current exhibition on Ruth Starr Rose: Revelations of African-American Life in Maryland and the World. This event will take place at the Regional F. Lewis Museum (830 E. Pratt St., Baltimore).
  • February 18: Mosaic Building at Art with a Heart  In partnership with the nonprofit organization Art with a Heart, members of EAARA will create a mosaic along with students from the Academy for College and Career Exploration high school.  The artwork will be the first of a yearlong project to commemorate BGE’s 200th anniversary.  Throughout the year, BGE employee groups will work with local students to create 100 unique mosaics that incorporate “BGE 200” in their design. The company will install the mosaics at community organizations across its service area later this year.
  • February 21: Film Screening and Youth Partnership – EAARA will sponsor and chaperone 50 students from the Wide Angle Media, Urban Alliance and BCPS Achievement Academy youth organizations at a screening about Jamel Shabazz Street Photographer.  This event will take place at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum (830 E. Pratt St., Baltimore).
  • February 24: Presentation by Dean Donald Tobin, Professor of Law at University of Maryland  Professor Tobin will discuss a new course, “Freddie Gray’s Baltimore: Past, Present, and Moving Forward,” to provide context on the underlying social issues that contributed to last year’s unrest in Baltimore. This event will take place at BGE’s Rutherford Business Center Building in Windsor Mill.
