What: On the 88th birthday of Governor William Donald Schaefer, the City of Baltimore will officially unveil a sculpture to honor the former Maryland Governor, Maryland Comptroller, Baltimore City Mayor and Baltimore City Council member. Governor Martin O’Malley, Mayor Sheila Dixon, the Baltimore City College High School Marching Band and the Morgan State University Choir are scheduled to take part in the ceremony.
When: November 2 at 1 p.m.
Where: Baltimore’s Inner Harbor West Shore Garden located between the Harborplace Light Street Pavilion and the Baltimore Visitor Center at Light and Conway streets. The event takes place rain or shine.
Why: Created by sculptor Rodney Carroll, the artwork is a gift to the City of Baltimore by Whiting-Turner President and CEO Willard Hackerman to recognize one of the state’s most renowned leaders and public servants William Donald Schaefer. Governor Schaefer was a member of the Baltimore City Council from 1955-1971, Mayor of Baltimore from 1971-1987, Governor of Maryland from 1987-1995 and Maryland Comptroller from 1999-2007.
