On January 27, 2020, the Greater Baltimore Committee (GBC) hosted its annual Maryland General Assembly Legislative Forum. The GBC holds this event a few weeks after the start of the Maryland General Assembly legislative session to provide an opportunity for members to hear from political “insiders” about the most important and controversial issues facing the policymakers.
The event featured leading figures from the Executive and Legislative branches from both parties. The panel consisted of Commerce Secretary Kelly Schulz,Senate President Bill Ferguson (D-46), Senator J.B. Jennings (R-7), Delegate Eric Luedtke (D-14), and Delegate Stephanie Smith (D-45).
The speakers addressed a wide range of issues important to the Greater Baltimore region. Nearly 300 attendees heard about matters including public safety and violent crime in Baltimore City, education reform, Pimlico/Preakness legislation, legalization of sports betting, Maryland’s budget, tax increases or elimination of tax credits, and transportation priorities.
The GBC will be active throughout the 2020 session serving as the voice of business and protecting Maryland’s competitive business environment.
