Delegate Kumar P. Barve to keynote Maryland Works 7th Annual Employment Awards

Maryland Works, Inc. will be hosting the 7th Annual Employment Awards Luncheon and special morning presentation on the “State of the State: Employment of People with Disabilities” on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014, at the Marriott BWI Airport Hotel. The morning presentation is from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by the Awards Ceremony Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The keynote will be provided by Maryland’s House of Delegates Majority Leader Kumar P. Barve. Delegate Barve is a highly respected leader in the General Assembly, and he has been instrumental in advancing a wide range of policy and budget initiatives that opened new opportunities for Marylanders with disabilities. Delegate Barve was first elected in 1990. He represents a district with a population of roughly 110,000 in central Montgomery County, Maryland. Delegate Barve currently serves on the Ways and Means Committee and serves on a number of major joint committees, including the Legislative Policy Committee, Spending Affordability Committee, as chairman of the Joint Information Technology and Biotechnology Committee, and House chairman of the Joint Committee on Transparency and Open Government.

The 7th Annual Employment Awards is Maryland’s premier event to recognize and celebrate advancement of employment, economic development and business ownership opportunities achieved by people with disabilities and other barriers to employment.

The morning presentation on the “State of the State: Employment of People with Disabilities” will include a panel of experts addressing the current state and national status of employment of people with disabilities. Represented on the panel will be the Maryland Department of Disabilities (MDOD), Maryland Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS), Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council (DDC) and the United States Department of Justice (DOJ).
