Easter Seals annual ‘Cruise for Kids’ to be held July 25

The annual Cruise for Kids brings children with disabilities and their families together with corporate and individual sponsors, boat owners and community leaders for a cruise on the Chesapeake Bay. The day makes a powerful impact on everyone involved and raises hundreds of thousands of dollars to support services for children and adults with disabilities.

For the children and families, the Easter Seals Cruise for Kids brings enormous physical, social and psychological benefits. “Easter Seals Cruise for Kids provides a rare opportunity for children with disabilities to build confidence, friendships, skills and abilities,” Juliette Rizzo, Ms. Wheelchair America 2005., said “When you’re out on a boat, you leave your disability at the dock.”

Boaters, donors and volunteers return year after year to HarborView Marina in Baltimore, Md., to meet and build relationships with the children and their families, and do something the children will remember for the rest of their lives.

“You could see the excitement on the kids’ faces,” wrote Erin Perkins, a high school student who helped her grandfather captain one of the boats. “The ‘Cruise for Kids’ trip was an unforgettable experience that allowed me to reach out and share the gift of ‘boating’ with someone who may not otherwise get to experience a day on the bay.”
