Did you know that Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshal Airport (BWI) ranks 22nd in the U.S. for passenger traffic and served more than 73,000 passengers a day before the COVID-19 pandemic hit? It’s also seen cargo traffic increase every year since 2015, with an almost 20% jump in 2020 alone.
As for the Port of Baltimore, it offers the deepest harbor in Chesapeake Bay and is closer to Midwest markets than any other East Coast port, according to state figures. It is also within an overnight drive to one-third of the nation’s population, making it a prime location for moving cargo to and from cargo ships by truck and train.
These facts and more are among the reasons BWI and the Port are significant and growing economic engines for the Baltimore region and the state.
Join the GBC as we explore with the leaders of these two powerhouses how they fuel the economy and what changes and improvements are in store to make them even more attractive and competitive.
