GBC president and CEO Donald C. Fry weighed in on the value of board-room diversity during a U.S. Hispanic Youth Entrepreneur Education breakfast event in Baltimore on February 5.
Fry joined five other local executives for a panel discussion on “Diversifying the Corporate Board Room” presented at the Center Club.
“Leadership in cultivating board diversity needs to come from the top of an organization,” Fry told event participants.
Gaining diversity usually requires “a board recruitment effort that goes beyond normal channels,” Fry said. “But board diversity adds creativity and enhances institutional perspective.”
Other presenters on the panel included Annie Burton-Byrd, president and CEO of the Signature Group; Julie Mercer, of Columbia Consulting Group; Frank Miller, executive director of the American Red Cross Central Maryland Chapter; Ackneil M. Muldrow II, president & CEO of Parker Muldrow and Associates LLC; and Hector Torres, president of Prosaber and former executive director of the Governor’s Commission on Hispanic Affairs.
