GBC Bridging the Gap initiative featured in BusinessWeek

The Greater Baltimore Committee’s Bridging the Gap minority business development initiative was named a finalist in the Best Small Business Project category of World Chambers Competition 2009 and featured in BusinessWeek.

The competition is a program of the International Chamber of Commerce, headquartered in Paris, France.

The GBC was one of four finalists in the category. Other finalists were: Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka.

The GBC’s 5-year-old Bridging the Gap initiative nurtures the development of minority-owned and women-owned business through programs that focus on business partnership creation, professional development, and broadening corporate procurement from minority vendors.

A signature Bridging the Gap project aimed at increasing purchases from minority vendors by GBC-member hospitals has resulted in doubling purchases from minority vendors by participating hospitals.

Winners of the 2009 World Chambers Competition were announced on June 5 at the 6th World Chamber’s Congress in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
