GBC fall events tackle key issues of impact

Updates on Maryland’s transportation funding crisis, cyber security, the state’s economic competitiveness, and bioscience development are among key topics impacting business that will be the focus of GBC events scheduled this fall. Fall events include:

Bioscience Speaker Series: “Inside the FDA” with Dr. Joshua M. Sharfstein: September 16 at 8:30 a.m. at the UMB BioPark. Gain an in-depth look at the inner workings of the Food and Drug Administration with a focus on biologics, drug safety, regulatory affairs and the approval process for both drugs and medical devices. Featuring keynote speaker, Joshua M. Sharfstein, M.D., secretary, Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

2011 Transportation Summit: September 19 at 8 a.m. at the Sheraton Baltimore City Center. The United States is now two years beyond the time for reauthorization of its transportation program and the federal gas tax is set to expire on September 30. The state of Maryland has not significantly raised transportation revenues in 20 years. The region’s infrastructure is crumbling and job creation opportunities are being lost. Come and hear what key decision makers are saying about this crisis.

Maryland’s Cyber Battleground – The Regional Impact and Global Reach of New Cyber Technology: September 22 at 7:30 a.m. at the Hotel at Arundel Preserve. It will feature keynote speaker Dutch Ruppersberger, ranking member of the House Select Committee on Intelligence. Panelists will include high-level security, intelligence and military officials, including Chris Foster, business development executive at Raytheon; Hart Rossman, vice president and chief technology officer for cyber security services and solutions at SAIC; Jim Richardson, director, Harford Office of Economic Development; Aris Melissaratos, former secretary of the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development.
