GBC supports Maryland Transportation Financing and Infrastructure Investment Act of 2012

Don Fry, testimony, gas tax

The Greater Baltimore Committee supports an increase in transportation funding contemplated by SB 791/HB 1302, the Maryland Transportation Financing and Infrastructure Investment Act of 2012. The bill would institute a sales tax on the retail price of motor fuel minus any state and federal taxes. In addition, consistent with the recommendations of the Blue Ribbon Commission on which GBC president and CEO Donald Fry served, the tax would be phased in over a minimum of three years.

The State badly needs the money supplied by the Transportation Trust Fund to improve and maintain roads and to build mass transit. The time is now for action on this pressing economic growth and job creation bill. The Greater Baltimore Committee stands ready to work with the legislature to enact much-needed protections to the Transportation Trust Fund, as well as revenue increases to begin to fund the backlog of state transportation projects.
