GBC’s first Bioscience Awards draws 31 nominees

Thirty-one nominees will vie for awards in four categories at the Greater Baltimore Committee’s first Annual Greater Baltimore Region Bioscience Awards, which will be presented on February 21 during 8 a.m. breakfast ceremonies in the GBC Board Room.

Supporting the development of the emerging bioscience industry in the Baltimore region is one of the GBC’s top long-term priorities. As part of this effort, the awards program was established to recognize outstanding achievement within the region’s bioscience industry.

Awards will be presented in the following categories: Entrepreneurial Spirit, Leadership in Bioscience, Best New Product or Process, and Best Academic/Industry Collaboration.

Judges for this year’s awards are: Michael Meehan, president, BD Diagnostic Systems; Roger Calvert, president and CEO, Ferris Baker Watts, Inc.; James Hughes, vice president for research and development, University of Maryland, Baltimore; Dr. Antonio Moreira, executive vice president, SPI USA, Inc.; Dr. Brandon J. Price, CEO, Cognate Therapeutics; Dr. Bruce Robertson, managing director, H.I.G. Ventures; and Tony Talalay, CEO, Brassica Protection Products.
