Girl Scouts of Central Maryland names co-chairs for 2018 Distinguished Women’s Awards

Girl Scouts of Central Maryland (GSCM) has announced Karen Evans, Vice President at Whiting-Turner, and Kimberly Valentine-Langley, President & CEO of National Fiber and Copper, will co-chair the 2018 Distinguished Womens Awards, GSCM’s annual fundraiser. Carmina Perez-Fowler, Assistant Vice President at the Maryland Stadium Authority, and Kellie MacDonald, former Vice President at Medifast, will serve as co-chairs of the auction committee. The 2018 Distinguished Women honorees will be announced in the coming months.

The 2018 Distinguished Women Awards will take place Wednesday, April 18 at The Center Club.

Karen Evans is a 2015 Distinguished Women Honoree and has served as co-chair for the Distinguished Women Awards for two years. Evans is also a board member of the ACE Mentor Program and serves as a project team leader for high school students. Kimberly Valentine-Langley recently joined the GSCM Board of Directors. Valentine-Langley has served on the nominating committee for Brava Awards Smart CEO and is a member of Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP).

GSCM’s Distinguished Women Awards honors five local women for their exemplary professional and civic accomplishments. The 2018 Distinguished Women Awards will mark 38 years of honoring women for their achievements. GSCM has honored more than 100 women including: Dr. Nancy Grasmick, Bea Gaddy, the Honorable Irma Raker, Patricia J. Mitchell, C. Sylvia Brown, Dr. Carla D. Hayden, Ph.D., Barbara Bozutto, and Mary Louise Preis, Esq.

The annual signature fundraiser includes a live and silent auction. Proceeds from the auctions benefit many of GSCM’s programs including its In-School programs, Hispanic Outreach initiative, the nationally acclaimed Beyond Bars program, and its STEAM and financial literacy programs.

2018 Auction co-chairs Carmina Perez-Fowler, Assistant Vice President, Capital Projects Development Group for the Maryland Stadium Authority, and Kellie MacDonald, former Corporate Vice President of External Affairs for Medifast Inc., are members of the GSCM Board of Directors.
