Greater Baltimore Committee formally launches foundation

Since its formation, the Greater Baltimore Committee (GBC) has been the voice of the community, including advocating for projects and initiatives to improve the overall business environment and quality of life in the Greater Baltimore region.

The GBC launched an online resource for the GBC Foundation, Inc. June 3. An online page on the GBC Web site is available to provide an outlet for which businesses, foundations, civic leaders and members of the public can make charitable contributions to affect the mission of the GBC.

The GBC Foundation, Inc. has donated to many worthy organizations and projects in the past, including Baltimore Center for the Performing Arts – Hippodrome Theatre, Salute to Maryland Olympians, the NACO Convention and the Inner Harbor Lights Show. (View a complete list of Foundation activities.) This is the first time the Foundation will be made public for direct donations.

Donations can be made to a general fund, where they will be used at the GBC Foundation, Inc’s discretion for future projects, market and feasibility studies, etc., or to specific projects the GBC is advocating and fundraising.

One of the current projects is the Healthy Harbor Initiative, a partnership with the Healthy Harbor Partnership to find funding and community volunteers for specific projects that will greatly reduce the amount of stormwater runoff and accompanying pollutants that go into our Harbor every day.

The Foundation was established in 1978 and is the charitable arm of the GBC, providing an outlet for which businesses, foundations, civic leaders and members of the public can make charitable contributions to affect the mission of the GBC. This 501(c)(3) nonprofit can accept contributions for community projects in the areas of urban affairs and public policy, business services and information, and economic development, thereby promoting the GBC’s core mission.
