Earlier this summer, the Howard County Chamber of Commerce welcomed Ron Meliker of The Kane Company as its new chairman for 2011-2012. Prior to this new role, Ron served on the Chamber’s Board and Executive Committee and has spent the past year learning all facets of the Chamber’s operations. Ron has spent a considerable amount of time meeting and more importantly, listening, to as many members as possible.
“My observations have provided me with the foundation essential to lead our Chamber forward this coming year, and I am both excited and ready!,” said Meliker. The new chairman’s focus during his term will be on growing the Chamber’s membership base, enhancing its use of social media, helping small businesses gain access to government contracting opportunities and launching several new initiatives such as the Chamber’s discounted online training program, the “Chamber Power” affinity program and a trip to China in spring 2012.
Meliker is executive vice president and COO of The Kane Company, which he joined in 2000 as the vice president of human resources and administration. Prior to his tenure there, Meliker worked for the Sunbelt Beverages Corporation, Emery Air Freight Corporation, Carling National Brewing Company and Westinghouse Electric Corporation. He holds a Master’s degree in Industrial Personnel Management from the George Washington University and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from the University of Maryland. Meliker resides in Ellicott City with his wife and their three children.
Meliker succeeds Elizabeth Rendón-Sherman, CEO and CFO for LG-Tek, who served as the Chamber’s chairman from 2010-2011. She will continue to support the Chamber’s Cyber Committee and other Chamber initiatives.
