Ten large companies seeking to learn about innovation products and services met with 19 young companies on June 19 at the 2nd Annual Innovation Partners Coalition meeting, a consortium of tech councils and organizations promoting partnerships between large and small tech companies.
The event, held at the Charles I. Ecker Training Center in Columbia, aimed to match large private companies with emerging companies and their innovative technologies.
Follow-up meetings to continue partnership discussions are expected to occur.
The event was a joint project of the Greater Baltimore Committee, Howard Tech Council, the Tech Council of MD, Carroll Tech Council, Dreamit Ventures, the Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore, Northeastern Maryland Tech Council and the Technology Development Corporation of Maryland (TEDCO).
“We know what success we had the first year because we had a record number of companies reach out to us and ask to be part of this program,” said Donald C. Fry, president and CEO of the Greater Baltimore Committee. “We have more young entrepreneurial innovation companies and also more of the larger companies who are interested in what sort of products, what type of services are out there for consideration.
“Our hope today is to find some new alliances that can be formed between innovation and entrepreneurial companies and some of the larger companies here today,” Fry said at the event. “We’re hoping that through these discussions that a deal may occur.”
MIPC held its first Innovation Partners meeting in June 2014 to introduce eight large Maryland companies to 13 innovative young companies seeking purchasers. Eight follow-up meetings resulted from the event.
The young, presenting companies were identified by contacting local incubators, TEDCO and the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED).
