EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc. (EA) announced Aug. 17 John Kumm, P.E., BCEE, and former senior engineer, has been appointed to the Maryland Air Quality Control Advisory Council (AQCAC) by the Secretary of the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) to serve a five-year term.
In appointing Kumm, Secretary of MDE Ms. Shari T. Wilson said, “The Department is confident that [Kumm’s] judgment and ability in performing the duties of this office will be to the advantage of the State and its people.”
A board-certified environmental engineer in Air Pollution Control, a registered professional engineer, and a graduate of the University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins University, Kumm’s 26-year career has been dedicated to air quality management.
“John’s knowledge of local and federal environmental regulations has been instrumental in realizing planning and compliance pathways that are both favorable for our clients and environmentally responsible. We at EA are proud to have him contribute his expertise to the AQCAC in support of its important mission,” said Ian MacFarlane, president and Chief Executive Officer.
Kumm has provided technical expertise on hundreds of air quality projects at both government and private facilities. His experience also includes renewable energy and environmental regulatory compliance projects in Maryland and adjacent Mid-Atlantic States. He is currently managing air quality compliance activities for the Maryland Aviation Administration, among others.
About the Maryland Air Quality Control Advisory Council
AQCAC provides MDE consultation on proposals for new air quality regulations by recommending adoption, rejection, or modification of the draft regulations or other matters brought before it. The Council consists of 15 members appointed by the Secretary of MDE. Members include representatives from industry, labor, professional associations, local and regional government organizations, academia, farming, the medical community, and the general public. The Council meets several times per year at MDE’s headquarters in Baltimore.
