MacKenzie celebrates principal and partner promotions


The MacKenzie Companies are proud to announce John R. Schultz has been made a principal of MacKenzie Commercial Real Estate Services, LLC, the company’s brokerage division; and John M. Black has been made a partner of MacKenzie
Capital, LLC
, the company’s financial division. Both are now senior vice presidents/principals of the company.

A member of MacKenzie’s distinguished retail team since 2004, Schultz’s focus includes leasing and investment sales, tenant advisory, and consulting for local and national retailers and landlords in the Baltimore/Washington market. During his tenure with MacKenzie, Schultz has represented a diverse group of clients including CVS, Brick Bodies Fitness, Lax World, Kiddie Academy, Planet Fitness, Goodwill of the Chesapeake, Greenebaum and Rose, Ward Properties, and COPT, and has completed deals totaling more than 1,130,000 square feet (sf) and valued over $181 million.

As a principal, Schultz will be directly responsible for providing guidance and mentorship to junior team members, while maintaining and promoting the MacKenzie brand. In addition to these leadership duties, he will continue to provide his clients with the superior advisory services that have earned him this new recognition.

A member of the MacKenzie Capital team since 2003, Black has over 25 years of experience in commercial real estate finance and investment having completed hundreds of transactions with a market value in excess of $2 billion. Among these transactions includes notable projects The Bagby Building, Gateway Shopping Center and Park Towers Apartments. In addition to his current day-to-day responsibilities, as a partner with MacKenzie Capital, LLC, Black will be responsible broadening MacKenzie Capital’s reach, securing opportunities for new business and representing the face of
MacKenzie within the real estate industry.

Prior to MacKenzie, Black was a senior vice president of Chicago-based Draper & Kramer Realty Advisors, representing pension funds and high net worth individuals and associations in their direct real estate investment allocations. He also held the position of chief investment officer for the firm’s AFLCIO Building Investment Trust, a $4 billion open-ended commingled fund.
