Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith joined executives from the MacKenzie Companies, Kinsley Construction, Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, Maryland and the new extended stay Residence Inn by Marriott at Hunt Valley for the opening of 55 Schilling, the sixth office building at the Schilling Road Corporate Campus and the only building delivered in Hunt Valley this year.
MacKenzie Development Company, LLC and Kinsley Construction developed the 50,000 square foot class A office building, which broke ground in September 2008. The state-of-the-art facility, the campus’ only two-story office building, offers 24-hour access, on-site storage, and numerous “green” elements including a white roof, high-efficiency HVAC units, motion-censored lighting and low-E glass.
Formerly an industrial park, the Schilling Road Corporate Campus was redeveloped by the MacKenzie Companies and Kinsley Construction in 2003. Strategically located in Northern Baltimore County, minutes from Hunt Valley Towne Centre, I-83 and the York Road Business Corridor, the 400,000 square foot office park is 100 percent leased. Major tenants include Black and Decker, Horich, Parks & Lebow Advertising, Bill Me Later, Inc., The Travelers Indemnity Company, Amtote International, FX Studios, The Forbush School and L.H. Cranston.
“Much of Baltimore County’s success depends on creative reuse and thoughtful redevelopment of older commercial and industrial properties,” said Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith. “The Schilling Road Corporate Campus is an example of how thoughtful, quality redevelopment can open opportunities for business.”
Jim Dresher, CEO of Skye Hospitality, and developer of the Residence Inn by Marriott at Hunt Valley located at 45 Schilling Road, also attended the event. The six-story, 141-room Marriott Hotel, adjacent to the new office building, is scheduled to open in December 2009. The hotel’s upscale rooms outfitted with full kitchens, high-speed internet, and working, sleeping, and entertainment spaces were designed to meet the short and long term needs of business travelers and tourists.
“We are excited to be a part of the vibrant Schilling and Hunt Valley Communities and look forward to making sure their visitors are well taken care of while on business travel to Hunt Valley,” said Dresher.
The Grand Opening event benefited the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, Maryland’s largest footrace, which will be held Oct. 18 in the Schilling Circle/McCormick Road corridor. The MacKenzie Companies, Kinsley Construction and the Residence Inn at Hunt Valley, contributed $50 per each attendee to the charity.
“We are proud to support this important cause with the opening of this state-of-the-art facility,” said Robert “Bob” Aumiller, Executive Vice President of the MacKenzie Companies. “All of the factors necessary for success in Maryland’s business community exist here — strategic location, supportive business environment, access to light rail and MTA transportation, numerous on and off campus amenities, and coming soon on-site hotel accommodations. 55 Schilling provides business owners with the unprecedented opportunity to position for success, and provided us an excellent opportunity to give back.”
The Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization serves every Maryland County with the exception of Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties by providing educational services and materials, and awarding grants to programs that increase access to quality breast health care including free screening, transportation to appointments, financial support, diagnostic testing, and follow-up services.
Executive Director of Baltimore County Economic Development David Iannucci, and Councilmen Kevin Kamenetz and Joseph Bartenfelder also attended the event.
