Matt Felton appointed by governor to Maryland’s iMap executive committee

MacKenzie Commercial Real Estate Services is proud to announce Matthew S. Felton, managing director of MacKenzie GIS and Research has been appointed by Governor Martin O’Malley to the Maryland Integral Map (MD iMap) Executive Committee effective immediately. Felton represents one of five private sector committee members to join the committee as the program looks to promote transparency and partnership between Maryland’s public and private sectors.

“Matt’s appointment to the iMap Executive Committee is a recognition of his unparalleled acumen in the GIS technology space and is an opportunity for private enterprise to collaborate with government initiatives for the benefit of the Maryland economy. Matt Felton and MacKenzie GIS look forward to bringing this unique expertise to assist in leveraging Maryland’s competitive edge,” Gary T. Gill, president and CEO of the MacKenzie Companies, said.

The Maryland Department of Planning (MDP), a major participant in the MD iMap initiative, recently received a special achievement in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) award from Esri, the world leader in GIS technology. MDP was recognized for their extensive contributions in spatial analysis and mapping related to the state’s first comprehensive plan for sustainable growth and development, known as PlanMaryland. With his recent appointment to the Maryland iMap Executive Committee, Felton will help guide projects similar to PlanMaryland that leverage Maryland’s rich geospatial resources and enhance business prosperity, government transparency, and citizen services in Maryland.

“I’m excited to be part of the next chapter in Maryland’s development of a coordinated statewide GIS,” Felton said. “Early in my career I helped create many of iMap’s underlying data and infrastructure and it’s a joy to be representing the business community on the receiving end of these data streams. I fully expect that this newly expanded executive committee will keep Maryland at the forefront of location analytics and map-based communication, and the state will thrive as a result.”

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology adds the “where” factor to traditional databases and translates this data into living, interactive maps. The added dimension of “location” helps decision makers better understand the interrelationship of large collections of data. MacKenzie’s GIS Team assists clients in the ability to transform an assortment of seemingly disparate data into dynamic and easy-to-read maps that offer a clear business advantage over more traditional methods of analyzing data. Translating powerful statistics into a visual map representation, the MacKenzie team offers insight into new possibilities and a meaningful, new way to communicate.
