Michael Hastings joins Whiteford’s bankruptcy practice

Whiteford Taylor & Preston is pleased to announce Michael Hastings, formerly of LeClair Ryan, has joined the firm as a partner.

Hastings joins the firm’s Business Reorganizations and Bankruptcy Litigation group, which is nationally ranked by US News & World Report and rated Band One (the highest) by Chambers in Maryland. The group represents debtors and debtors in possession, creditors and creditors’ committees and trustees in all types of commercial and bankruptcy related litigation, debt restructuring and bankruptcy reorganization proceedings, including out-of-court workouts.

“I am proud to become a part of such an accomplished bankruptcy practice,” Hastings said. “Whiteford’s platform is aligned perfectly to allow me to pursue chapter 11 debtor and committee matters, as well as related litigation, throughout the mid-Atlantic region. I am eager to begin collaborating with the many fine professionals at the firm.”

Hastings has a wide range of experience in bankruptcy, creditor-debtor rights/insolvency and reorganization law, and litigation. He is a former chair of the Virginia Bar Association Bankruptcy Law Section and has been listed among the “Top Fifty” lawyers in Virginia by Super Lawyers, as well as having been named the Roanoke “Lawyer of the Year” for bankruptcy and creditor-debtor rights in 2010 by Best Lawyers in America.

He received his BBA cum laude from Eastern New Mexico University in 1989 and his law degree from Washington & Lee University School of Law in 1993. He is admitted in Virginia and New York.

“We are delighted to welcome Mike to the firm,” Martin Fletcher, the firm’s managing partner, said. “He is a superb addition to our bankruptcy practice. In addition, since Mike is based in Roanoke, the firm will be opening a small office there. This is a significant expansion for our bankruptcy and litigation practice, and the next step in our firm’s expansion in Virginia.”
