Miles & Stockbridge is pleased to announce that Alicia N. Ritchie, a Principal and litigator at the law firm, was recently recognized by the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland (GSCM) as one of five local women leaders honored for their exemplary professional accomplishments and community contributions.
Now in its 38th year, GSCM’s Distinguished Women’s Award Celebration honors local businesswomen who reflect the attributes that Girl Scouting aspires to instill in every girl. Proceeds from the event support GSCM leadership development programs designed to help girls increase their self-esteem, confidence and character.
“Alicia is an outstanding leader and role model,” said Nancy W. Greene, Chairman of Miles & Stockbridge. “We’re so proud to see her achievements and community service recognized with this award.”
Ritchie resides in the Baltimore office of Miles & Stockbridge, where she co-chairs the Miles Minority Network and sits on the law firm’s Diversity Committee. The Miles Minority Network creates opportunities to build a vibrant minority professional community and serves as a resource for professionals of all backgrounds in the Baltimore-Washington region. Ritchie is also a member of the Alliance of Black Women Attorneys and the American Bar Association TIPS (Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section) Women Trial Lawyers Task Force, and she has served as a volunteer lawyer for organizations such as the House of Ruth and the Homeless Persons Representation Project.
Promoting diversity in the legal profession and expanding educational and career opportunities for young people are two areas of focus for Ritchie’s many community activities. She serves as the Baltimore City Lead for the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity’s Law School Mentoring Program, a one-on-one comprehensive mentoring program for first-year diverse law students, and will be a speaker at the LCLD’s 1L Scholars Summit next month in Philadelphia. She is also a member of the advisory board of the Fannie Angelos Program for Academic Excellence, a diversity pipeline program at the University of Baltimore School of Law, and she serves as a mentor to first-year law students through the school’s mentoring program.
In addition to chairing the Coppin State University Development Foundation, Ritchie is a leader of the CollegeBound Foundation’s annual Lawyers’ Campaign, which helps Baltimore City public school students connect with resources that allow them to attend college.
In 2016, Ritchie was a winner of the Daily Record’s Leading Women award, which recognizes women age 40 and younger based on their professional experience, community involvement and commitment to inspiring change. This year, she was named to Coppin State University’s Distinguished Alumni.
Ritchie was featured in a 2018 Distinguished Women Profile on the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland blog. She and her fellow Distinguished Women honorees were recognized at an awards celebration at The Center Club in Baltimore City on April 18.
