Baltimore-based Niles, Barton & Wilmer, LLP has named a new managing partner, Craig D. Roswell, who has served as chairman of the firm’s litigation department. Roswell has been elected to serve beginning Jan. 1, completing the transition of management duties from Jeffrey A. Wothers, who has positioned Niles Barton as a prominent regional business litigation and insurance law firm during his past seven years as the chair of the firm’s management committee.
Under Wothers’s leadership, the firm has expanded its presence in the mid-Atlantic and strengthened its capabilities in commercial litigation, real estate, and trusts and estates law.
“Craig has been intimately involved in every aspect of firm management, and I am confident in his abilities to embrace the opportunities and challenges ahead,” Wothers said.
Wothers emphasized he is in no way retiring. He will continue to focus on his practice primarily in areas of insurance coverage litigation, property insurance law, and commercial litigation. Wothers remains on Niles Barton’s management committee, supporting his colleague as Roswell assumes his new leadership role.
A Baltimore native, Roswell graduated from Loyola College in Maryland in 1988 and earned his J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1991. He joined Niles Barton in 1993. He has over 20 years of experience as a litigator, including matters involving business disputes, real estate, property insurance law, insurance coverage and defense of general liability claims. As managing partner, he will oversee attorneys, staff, business development initiatives, client relations, office operations and strategic planning.
“I am looking forward to leading this talented and experienced team of attorneys on the successful course charted by Mr. Wothers,” Roswell said. With the firm celebrating the 175th anniversary of its founding, Niles Barton is positioned to look forward to the opportunities for growth while ensuring the highest quality of legal services for clients.
Replacing Rosewell as chairman of the litigation department will be George E. Reede Jr. Reede focuses on insurance coverage and subrogation in his practice. He has over 20 years of litigation experience and has handled cases throughout Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. He has effectively represented insurers in federal and state courts, at both the trial and appellate level, and in administrative hearings.
Reede received his J.D. from Washington and Lee University School of Law in 1990 and a Bachelor of Arts degree, with high honor, from Cedarville College in 1987.
