Planet Fitness, a national fitness chain known for their trademark “judgement free zone” and low membership fees, recently opened a new facility at the Constant Friendship Shopping Center. Located at 3442 Emmorton Rd., in Abingdon, the 15,000 square foot fitness center is adjacent to Gabriel Brothers and across from the future site of the Boulevard at Box Hill and Wegmans Food Store.
Capital improvements at $500,000 were made for the state-of-the-art gym, which offers unlimited fitness instruction in addition to brand-name strength and cardio equipment.
“Excellent visibility, abundant parking, and a robust day and night time population made the site a good fit for Planet Fitness,” said John Schultz, a Senior Real Estate Advisor with MacKenzie Commercial Real Estate Services, LLC, who provided site selection and lease negotiation for the firm.
Twelve to 15 employees will work at Planet Fitness in Abingdon, one of six in Maryland. Two additional branches are currently under construction, and four more facilities are anticipated to open in the State this year.
Planet Fitness is opened 24 hours a day Monday through Friday and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
