Greater Baltimore Committee President and CEO Donald C. Fry submitted testimony July 25 to the Baltimore City Council in support of Council Bill 17-0111 – Weapons – Prohibiting Handguns Near Places of Public Assembly. Fry urges the council to support the proposed legislation.
“This bill is intended to serve as a tool for police and prosecutors to get illegal guns off the streets. If passed, this bill would ensure that men and women convicted of carrying an illegal handgun in the vicinity of a church, park, school, public building or other place of public assembly will not be allowed to wreak havoc on the streets of Baltimore. Instead, they will be guaranteed a year in jail which will protect innocent citizens from violence,” states the testimony submitted on July 25 by Donald C. Fry, President and CEO of the Greater Baltimore Committee.
