Roy Firestone to speak at GBC Lunch with the Orioles

Television journalist and sports entertainer Roy Firestone will be a featured speaker at the Greater Baltimore Committee’s 2007 Lunch with the Orioles on April 11.

Firestone, an acclaimed interviewer and commentator who is a former host of ESPN’s Up Close Prime Time, will make remarks during the luncheon program at the Sheraton Baltimore City Center Hotel.

Lunch with the Orioles, the GBC’s annual rite of spring to launch the baseball season, also features a pre-luncheon reception and autograph session, and luncheon seating where audience members get to meet Orioles players, coaches, and team celebrities who dine at their tables. The lunch program, which will be emceed by Orioles announcers Jim Hunter, Fred Manfra and Joe Angel, also includes interviews of manager Sam Perlozzo and Orioles players.

In addition to being a top sports commentator, Firestone is a veteran stage entertainer. He has earned six Emmy awards and the coveted Northwestern University Award for Broadcast Journalism. He is an accomplished singer and comedian whose television appearances have included guest spots on The Arsenio Hall Show, Late Night with David Letterman, and Nightline.

Other major media personalities who have been guest speakers at recent Orioles lunches include author John Feinstein and ESPN Magazine’s Tim Kurkjian.

More than 500 baseball fans from the region’s business community are expected to attend the 2007 Lunch with the Orioles, one of GBC’s most popular annual events. The GBC launched the event in 1980 to demonstrate strong business-sector support for the team.
