“Sail for Kids” Regatta to raise funds for inner city sailing program

The Downtown Sailing Center (DSC) is proud to announce the third annual Sail for Kids Regatta and Fundraiser Celebration, benefiting the center’s community outreach programs. On July 11, sailboats organized by the Baltimore City Yacht Association (BCYA) and the Magothy River Sailing Association (MRSA) will race from Annapolis to Baltimore; smaller boats from the DSC will race near Fort McHenry. Racers and the community will come together for the post-race Fundraiser Celebration, including a silent auction, catering and live music at the Baltimore Museum of Industry’s Waterside Pavilion.

Every summer at the DSC, hundreds of children from Baltimore City get to experience Baltimore from a whole new perspective — the water. In the past two years no group has been turned away for lack of funds, and the DSC hopes to be able to continue that tradition. The Downtown Sailing Center strives to instill the values of responsibility and teamwork through sailing programs that are available to disadvantaged and at-risk youth, whether able-bodied or disabled.

This year the DSC’s goal is to raise $50,000 through the Sail for Kids Regatta and Fundraiser Celebration — enough money for over 1,500 children to experience sailing in the Baltimore Harbor.
