Under Armour and Kevin Plank honored with U.S. Small Business Administration’s first Hall of Champions Award

Maria Contreras-Sweet, Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and a member of President Obama’s cabinet, joined Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake to present the first SBA Hall of Champions award to Under Armour and Kevin Plank October 12, 2016. The event was held at Under Armour’s global headquarters in Baltimore.

The Hall of Champions honors successful U.S. companies that commenced with the support and foundation from SBA. Plank started his company as a student at the University of Maryland and received a game-changing SBA loan which kept his dream alive. Under Armour has grown from a small business with $17,000 in sales in the first year to a multi-billion dollar global performance brand.

Prior to the award presentation, Plank joined SBA Administrator Contreras-Sweet and Mayor Rawlings-Blake for a conversation on fostering entrepreneurship, the value and importance of the SBA and Under Armour’s pursuit of empowering athletes around the world.
