Sixteen finalists have been selected for the Greater Baltimore Committee’s Fourth Annual Bridging the Gap Awards for minority business achievement.
Winners will be announced at an awards presentation event on November 15 at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture in Baltimore, Md. Senator Verna Jones will deliver the keynote address. The awards event, which begins at 6 p.m., will recognize outstanding minority-owned and women-owned firms as well as majority businesses or business executives that have nurtured the development of minority businesses in the Baltimore region.
“By honoring successful minority and women-owned businesses and others in our region who show strong commitment to diversity, we underscore the economic case for making minority business development a high priority,” said GBC president and CEO Donald C. Fry. “Our region’s economic future depends on all of its business resources being fully-engaged.”
Awards will be presented for three categories: successful minority businesses that deserve recognition for outstanding achievement; corporations or individual business executives that have shown leadership in the area of inclusive business practices; and partnerships or strategic alliances that generate new business opportunities for minority-owned or women-owned firms.

The GBC’s 4-year-old “Bridging the Gap” initiative focuses on strengthening the growth of minority-owned and women-owned businesses in Baltimore. Studies show that more than $5 billion in increased annual sales and 32,000 jobs would be created if the Baltimore region’s minority business sector could develop to a level comparable to other regions of its size.
