GBC President and CEO Donald C. Fry joined host Glenn Clark of Glenn Clark Radio and PressBox.com live on March 25, 2020, for a brief conversation about economic issues related to regional sporting events.
Fry discussed ways to continue to support The Orioles, Preakness Stakes and Pimlico Race Course legislation, sports betting and the future of Baltimore’s arena.
When asked what his message to business owners would be at this time, Fry said, “Remain as positive as possible. We are a very resilient society. We’re trying to be a resource and let businesses know of laws that have been passed and where they can go for resources.”
Clark and Fry also discussed the new facility at Pimlico Race Course, “It will receive a considerable facelift and will serve as a year-round community destination,” he said.
As for getting people to go downtown to attend baseball games, Fry said, “We need to turn out and see them develop as a team. There is a strong police presence downtown. When you have a critical mass of people, there is more feeling of comfort in general.”
