Tourism, Entertainment, and Culture Committee Met on November 16

The GBC Tourism, Entertainment, and Culture Committee met on November 16, 2021. Committee Chair Onahlea Shimunek, General Manager of Lord Baltimore Hotel, welcomed two speakers. Yvette Diamond, Facilitator, GBC Regional Workforce Development Initiative updated the Tourism, Education, and Culture committee on the Greater Baltimore Committee’s Preparing for the Future Regional Workforce Initiative. The initiative is designed to unlock the Greater Baltimore region’s full workforce potential by identifying solutions to current and future workforce concerns as well as promoting synergy between stakeholders. Michael Haynie, Chief Executive Officer at Global Training Centers LLC and President and CEO of the Maryland Center for Hospitality Training, gave a presentation about how the pandemic has changed the priorities of employees, employers, and customers in the hospitality industry and how to use training to address these issues. Teresa Milio Birge, GBC Director of Policy and Research, shared information with committee members about Baltimore City Public Schools Office of College and Career Readiness Work-based learning course. She told them how to get involved by hosting a senior in spring 2022 for a 16-hour a week internship.  

The next meeting of the Tourism, Entertainment and Culture Committee will be held on February 15, 2022, at 9 a.m.
