A new scholarship at Coppin State University is named after Freddie Gray.
The school announced on July 12 the $25,000 scholarship, which will benefit a graduate of Carver Vocational Technical High School who is interested in attending college. Carver is Gray’s alma mater.
Gray’s twin sister, Fredericka Gray, helped Coppin officials announce the scholarship. University President Anthony Jenkins said the scholarship speaks volumes.
“Today, we wanted to come here and just highlight this great work, this great partnership and to show another example of how our community has taken a tragic situation and turned it into a great opportunity,” Jenkins said.
The Freddie Gray Student Success Scholarship is sponsored by Coppin, McDonald’s and the Gray family.
