Pulse Check: The Scorecard Summit to feature keynote address from Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond President & CEO Tom Barkin
(Baltimore, Md.) – The Greater Baltimore Committee (GBC) is gearing up for its highly anticipated Pulse Check: The Scorecard Summit on April 5th at the Hilton Baltimore BWI Airport, one of the organizations three milestone events taking place in 2024. The event, expected to draw more than 300 professionals from across the region’s tech, real estate, economic development, finance, education, and healthcare sectors, will include the unveiling of the first-ever Annual Investment Scorecard for the Region, featuring a snapshot of more than 300 investments announced in 2023, totaling more than $3.5 billion.
“The scorecard quantifies investment activity to provide a deeper look into the impact of global business trends on the Region’s future economic growth. Miami, Pittsburgh, Detroit and others have benefited from years of data on the investments coming into their regions,” said Mark Anthony Thomas, President & CEO of the GBC.
GBC worked with TIP Strategies to survey professionals at the country’s site selection and location advisory firms to get their “pulse” on investing in the Baltimore Region. The GBC team also assessed data provided by public sector and ecosystem partners, jurisdictional Economic Development Organizations (EDO) partners, the Maryland Department of Commerce, Downtown Partnership of Baltimore, and the real estate development sector.
“Our pulse is good,” said Thomas. “The Baltimore Region is holding its own, and though the scorecard is just a baseline of the Greater Baltimore Region now, over time, as we build out a more expansive model, we will be able to see growth patterns and trends and will be able to measure our economic momentum.”
Among the esteemed speakers at the summit are Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond President & CEO Tom Barkin, Maryland State Comptroller Brooke Lierman, Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman, Maryland Aviation Administration President & CEO Ricky Smith, UpSurge Baltimore CEO Kory Bailey, Howard County Economic Development Authority (HCEDA) CEO Jennifer Jones, Green Street Impact Partners General Partner Calvin Young, Wexford Science & Technology, LLC Vice President of Development Greg Herlong, and Howard Hughes EVP of Government Affairs & Business Development Greg Fitchitt. WJZ News Anchor and Reporter Vic Carter will serve as emcee and moderate discussion.
